Decarbonisation

From "Draft Vision"

Go to the project

The level of decarbonisation needed in our area to meet current statutory targets will be significant over this SLP time period (and probably more significant than people currently imagine). We need an honest and bold sense of what our decarbonisation targets are going to be early on. This will help us understand what risks and opportunities we face when confronted with things like sustainable development choices (i.e. the proposed Development Scenarios that appear later in consultation - each of those must be modelled according to their carbon impact).

Every choice we make throughout the SLP process should consider its decarbonation potential and cost. Decarbonisation done well has huge benefit potential to the local economy as well as health and wellbeing. Done well, it could be what sets our communities apart from elsewhere.

It'll come to a point where we're doing absolutely anything we can to decarbonise. Let's start now and prioritise rail transport and cycling corridors.

@Ynte Lammertsma - absolutely agree... It's the old adage - start as early as you can, it'll be easier that way, in the long run.
Good point, @Matt Dimond-Brown - being honest - about what we know, what we don't, what things look like, what we may well need to do... It's all part of it, isn't it??
