The need to improve cycling routes is obvious however how with the existing infrastructure. The cycle route between Glos and Chelt is a good idea but suffers from existing build restrictions and the deign is poor on certain parts. Agree we need to use rail lines more, but there is capacity problems in stops and trains. It is difficult to build new bus lanes and re-opening train lines PLUS the costs.
    Need to get people out of single person car use, including myself, however that is a problem as the alternatives are not attractive enough. Cycling can be unsafe. Bus services can be slow and very time consuming. To attend an 1 hour exercise at 10.00 I would need to leave just before 9, walk to bus stop catch bus. After 11 next bus would get me back after 12 and another walk. This is about 2 hr 40 min travel for 1 hour session that by car would take 40 min return journey.
      Sustainable travel = rail. Trams and trains can be powered by renewable energy and to a certain extent so can buses. It's not just bikes and there seems to be some sort of resistance to mentioning rail in the draft vision. I think we need to be looking at reopening old railway lines and creating bus and cycle-only transport corridors. The busways could be converted to light rail at a later date when populations increase.
        We need a large expansion of segregated cycle lanes and restriction of car movements within town centres. Road narrowing will also be crucial to enable accessible, walkable neighbourhoods. Lowering speed limits and banning private vehicles near schools during pick-up and drop-off is also needed. We need to make it as quick, if not faster to cycle or take public transport across Tewkesbury, Cheltenham or Gloucester than using a car. You will not achieve your goals if otherwise.

        @Daniel Collins Cheltenham is flat as a pancake. We could be a cycling city, but it's more important for people to park their SUV on the side of a major road rather than provide a safe, segregated place to cycle.
          @Ynte Lammertsma it’s a pretty lumpy pancake out in Charlton Kings but I take your point. With e-bikes growing in popularity there’s a major opportunity to get people into active travel but you need the infrastructure in the towns. Problem is the County council are splurging all their money on the ‘cycle spine’ rather than sorting out the trickier local infrastructure.
            These are laudable goals but could be more explicitly linked to the stated goal of fighting climate change. Ideally I'd like to see a firm commitment to reducing car dependency across rural and urban communities. You could also consider adding some language about inclusion, as active travel and transport systems can be a major issue for the elderly, disabled, and less well-off.
